Update, 10-2014: This garden is now 3 years old and is really maturing into a beauty! The Laurentia (little blue star shaped flowers at the front of the beds) received a lot of attention this year for the beauty and longevity of their blooms (May to November) and the perfume they give off as you pass them. They were purchased from L&M Nursery in Bethel on route 17B, one of two nurseries that carry this plant locally. The other source is Everlasting Spring Garden Center in White Sulphur Springs. Laurentia is an annual and must be replanted each year.
News, 2013: The Liberty Library’s perennial gardens win 1st place in Sullivan Renaissance 2013 Community Beautification Awards! Its true, on Monday, August 10, 2013 the Library’s gardens took first place in Category A entries during the county’s annual awards ceremony. You can read the full press release here. Its kinda cool to have a garden I designed win an award. The real gratification came from all the positive feedback from passersby and patrons of the Library as I was installing the design, and from the experience of working with local girl scouts to clean up the beds and plant colorful annuals. I’m happy with it, and so are my long time clients, the librarians and BOT at the Liberty Library. Updated photos will be added each year as the garden matures.
